Get Your Groove Back: How To Recover Lost Confidence

Confidence is one of those things that just about everyone wishes they had more of. Many of us look at the people around us and long to be able to be as bold or brave as they are. Sadly, the world around us often seems like it’s doing everything it can to stop us from being able to do just that. From music videos and TV to advertising, the images around us are often designed specifically to tell us that we’re not good enough and that the only way to become good enough is to buy this or that product or dress like this or that celebrity. In the end, all it does is make you feel bad about yourself so that you’re more likely to spend money on things that you don’t need. The truth is, confidence is something that the world often doesn’t want us to have. But that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. In fact, there are plenty of things that you can do in order to get your confidence back. Here are just a few of them.

Change up your style

Sometimes the only thing that you really need in order to give yourself the confidence boost that you really need is to mix up your style a little bit. If you’ve been lacking in confidence, then there’s a decent chance that you’ve been somewhat apologetic about your style. If you want to shake that off, then you’ve got to become a little bolder. Think about the kinds of styles you’ve always wanted. From dresses that you’ve had your eye on to curly haircuts that you’ve never dared to try out. Be brave and step out of your comfort zone a little bit. If you do, you’ll often find that your confidence levels rise instantly just because of how great you feel to be rocking a style that’s entirely your own!

Find the right products

There are so many beauty, haircare, and skincare products out there that trying to figure out which ones are right for you can often feel pretty overwhelming. The best thing that you can do is to start trying out different brands and products to see what works. Not only that but there are so many different blogs and websites out there dedicated to picking out the very best of the bunch. Of course, you shouldn’t just take people’s word for it. Make sure that you try things out and see what works for you. Finding the right products can often help you finally feel more comfortable in your own skin and far less likely to want to hide away all of the time. Heck, you might even have the confidence to go makeup free every so often!

Ditch toxic friends

A lot of people don’t even realize how much of their confidence is influenced by the people around them. The people in your life should be the ones building you up and making you feel the best that you possibly can. However, all too often people end up putting up with people in their life who want nothing more than to drag them down and make them feel awful. No matter what kind of person you are, you don’t deserve to have the people around you try and drag you down and make you feel bad about yourself. If your friends are the kinds of people who will judge you for the choices you make or try and bring you down when you’re doing something that makes you happy, you’re entirely within your rights to ditch those people altogether and to refuse to talk to them entirely! You deserve people around you who are going to build you up, not do everything they can to try and tear you down.

Get to know yourself

Here’s one of the big reasons why a lot of people find it so hard to become more confident: they have something of a warped idea of what they actually look like. Because of the impossible standards that are so often set for us by society, it can often be all too easy to feel like you’re too big, too small, too tall, too short, to whatever. One of the very best ways around this is to take the time to get to know yourself. Selfies are a fantastic way to do this. They allow you to dictate the angles and lighting that you use and can help you learn what your best features are. Another great thing you can do is to just stand naked in front of the mirror. The truth is we all have our jiggly bits that we don’t like and getting used to them it the first step towards really being able to love yourself the way you are.

Fake it ’til you make it

Here’s the big secret that no one is going to tell you about all of those confident people you see out in the world: most of them aren’t confident at all. Or, at least, they didn’t start out that way. The truth is that most people spend a lot of their time trying to convince the rest of the world of their confidence by pretending. But the funny thing is that pretending can actually be a great first step towards actually having confidence. If you learn how to project confidence then eventually you’re going to be able to turn that projection into something real. Eventually, you’ll be so used to acting confident; you’ll start to believe it yourself.

One of the most important things to remember is that nothing on the outside can really give you the confidence that you want. Sure, those things can often help you find it, but the truth is that it has to come from within. Being able to reject the world around you trying to tell you how you should see yourself and learning to love yourself just the way you are is a far better way to earn your confidence that all the clothes, creams, potions, and pills in the world could ever provide.
