Do you use bead garland in your Christmas décor? There are so many different kinds available. I like to use it when decorating the Christmas tree. You will notice I don’t wrap the bead garland around the tree but rather drape red and gold strands in different sizes down the sides.
Do you have a problem with how to store bead garland so it does not get twisted and tangled? Have you had to spend time untangling the bead garland before you can do anything with it?
Here is an easy inexpensive solution! It is also quick and takes up very little storage space! Your Christmas bead garland will not get tangled and be immediately ready to use year after year.
How To Store Christmas Bead Garland
Re-sealable Bags: Several of the small bead garland will fit in one bag with this storage method. If your bead garland is more detailed and intricate I recommend one strand of garland per bag to make sure nothing gets damaged.
Plastic Paint Drop Sheet: I purchased mine at the dollar store. I like the thickness of the plastic and how easy it was to work with. You can also use dry cleaning bags.
Ruler, Pencil and Scissors: You will need these supplies to measure and cut the plastic to fit into the re-sealable bags and the length of your bead garland strands.
Instructions for Long Length of Bead Garland (about 12 feet)
Cut one piece of 20” x 60” plastic for each bead garland. Fold plastic in half widthwise so now the plastic drop sheet measures 20” x 30”. Since this plastic is quite thin I found doubling it made it easier to work with.
Tip Time: I call this a hamburger fold as I illustrate and explain in
Place the bead garland about 1” away from and along the open edge side.
Fold the plastic over the bead garland. This fold should be about 1” to 1-1/2”. Loop the bead garland over the side and place it on top of the folded section back to the other end.
Keep following this procedure folding the plastic and running the bead garland back and forth till all of it is secured in the plastic.
Tip Time: Try to get a flat rectangular shape by smoothing each folded section flat.
Fold the package in half and slip into a re-sealable bag. The width of a large re-sealable bag is 10” so it should fit in the bag perfectly.
Repeat the same procedure with the rest of your bead garland and fit in as many folded packages as the re-sealable bag can hold.
Use a blank index card to label the contents of the package.
Now your bead garland is nicely, snugly and safely packaged. It is ready to use year after year without getting tangled!
Instructions for Short Length of Bead Garland (about 6 feet)
The red garland was shorter so I cut 20”x 20” sheets of plastic and folded each piece on half.
Here it is again but with shorter strands of red beads and shorter lengths of plastic.
Final Comments: I see buying Christmas decorations as an investment. It is worth it to take a little extra time to store your decorations with a little extra care. This method for how to store Christmas bead garland not only saves time but also protects it from getting damaged while in storage! I bought this red and gold bead garland years ago and it still looks great on the Christmas tree!
