Time With Thea – Best #12MonthsofDIY Project For 2016! ~ A review of all the #12MonthsofDIY projects created plus the most popular and best DIY revealed!
I have to thank Christina from The DIY Mommy! During the fall of 2015 she sent out an all call for 11 Canadian DIY bloggers who were interested in participating in a monthly DIY challenge. The goal was for each blogger to create and share a DIY project for each month during the 2016 year. So when you crunch the numbers…
12 bloggers creating one project for 12 months = 144 DIY projects!
There was one condition. The condition was we were assigned a different material to work with each month. Some of the materials I was very comfortable with and some of the materials were a little out of my comfort zone. But I threw my name in and I am so glad I participated for so many reasons!
I love to create and share the creations on the blog. This challenge was a great way to motivate me to continue creating and continue sharing!
Some of the materials were a bit of a challenge but only because they were unfamiliar. This challenge had me definitely think out of the box and I now have new favourite materials to work with!
I don’t know if you know this but there is a very supportive and caring community amongst bloggers behind the scenes. Blogging can actually be quite an isolating and lonely experience. Even though I have only met a couple of my #12MonthsofDIY team members face-to-face they are all now my friends. I really lucked out joining this incredible team of Canadian DIY bloggers from across Canada. Every member of this group has been amazing!
I was completely inspired each month by what each team member created using the same kind of material. It was Christina from The DIY Mommy who created the collages each month for the team. Each month I looked forward to see what everyone else created.
When I complete a project, put together the blog post and hit publish I am always curious to see how it will be received by my readers. I love the unexpected and the element of surprise. This year’s collection of #12MonthsofDIY did have one project that was particularly more popular compared to the rest. Interestingly, it was my favourite too! I will let you know at the end of the blog which one it was.
I also have another and final collage for you showcasing every team member’s best #12MonthsofDIY project. You will find it at the end. Have fun visiting their blogs to see their best!

Time With Thea – Best #12MonthsofDIY Project For 2016!
This was a really fun project to create because I got to use one of my most favourite paint colours from Fusion Mineral Paint. I am in love with the deep rich Liberty Blue paint colour. It is very vibrant and bold. When I went to the thrift store I went in with a very open mind. But when I saw this bamboo table tray I knew right away what I was going to do with it and I had another project for my favourite paint colour. The Thrift Store Patio Table Tray Makeover looked fabulous on the outdoor patio during the summer. I have moved it indoors for the winter season. It is now a perfect side table in the guest bedroom!
Final Comments: I grew up in a household where every family member was a DIYer even before the term DIY was born. My mother was a fabulous cook and seamstress. My father was an artist and gardener. I should say he is still an artist painting beautiful paintings at 90 years old. My brother was always working with wood and even know is stripping some of the antique pieces that came from the family home and giving them new life.
I too was always making something as a child and I still love creating and making today. I come from an education background having been a teacher for many years. There is a lot of research today showing that teaching children creativity and allowing them to create and make things is excellent for their learning and thinking skills. Many schools are setting aside classrooms and calling them ‘Maker Spaces’. So I too love being a DIYer and I guess you can call me a Maker!
Your Turn: Are you are DIYer and a Maker? DO you have a creative maker space? What kind of things do you like to create?
Now it’s time to see which projects were my blogging friends’ favourites, and what they thought of our yearly challenge. Click on the project name to visit their project post, and their blog name to visit their blog and see their last #12MonthsofDIY post.
Have a creative day!
