Are you looking for a simple method for making bows for your DIY projects? Are you looking for loads of inspiration and for making gorgeous big bows? This is my go-to simple method I use all of the time. I have my good friend Debbie to thank who teaches horticulture and floral design. Years ago we were having a visit and she showed me her method. I have to admit it took me a bit of practice and several tries to figure it out. But once I got the hang of it I never looked back and have had loads of fun and success making different kinds of bows for my various DIY projects.
I have since experimented and have come up with different versions of the same simple method. It is these variations that I am showcasing and sharing with you today. All of these bows have been shared including how they were used and how they were made on Time With Thea!

Follow this step-by-step tutorial to learn and practice this simple method for making a big bow!
Use different colours of sheer ribbon to make one big bow!
Single coloured wide satin ribbon makes a bold bow statement!
A big bow made from burlap looks great added to a wreath, an outdoor Christmas planter and even a summer planter!
Embellish a basic white with a couple of silk Gerbera daisies to give it a unique look!
Combine a patterned ribbon along with a sheer ribbon! Patterned ribbon that is not the same on both sides is trickier to work with. Here is my simple solution using the same simple method!
Go really big by using three different coloured ribbons!
Make smaller single bows for your banister and Christmas tree!
Deco mesh combined with sheer wire edge ribbon and bead garland make gorgeous super large bows!
Tulle wrapped around a large wrapped wedding gift and tied into a bow is so pretty and an inexpensive solution!
Double up wide wire edge ribbon to make an extra-large and totally stunning big bow!
Final Comments: It takes some practice over time and sometimes some re-dos when making bows.
It is also a lot of fun to experiment with different colour combinations and fabrics to see what unique and gorgeous bows can be made!
I prefer to work with better quality ribbon. Before buying ribbon I always make sure it is the same on both sides whenever possible. Ribbon that is one-sided is trickier to work with. Sheer ribbon is great for making multiple coloured bows. I also prefer to work with wire-edge ribbon. It is easier to shape the ribbon and then it holds that shape afterwards. But I also love working with satin ribbon because it truly makes a gorgeous bow! Deco mesh, tulle and burlap are also fabulous materials for making fabulous looking bows!
