How To Care For Brand New Bath Linens ~ Correctly washing and drying brand new bath linens prior to using them ensures they stay looking newer for longer.
Are you like me and love the look, feel and being able to use brand new bath linens? I have to admit I love going to the bath department in stores just to look at all of the fluffy cozy towels on display in all of their gorgeous colours.
Then I go home and look at the faded blue and white towels we have been using in the master bath for a l-o-n-g time. They definitely lost their softness, fluffiness and original deep colour. Don’t get me wrong. These bath linens were functional. But they had reached a point after using them so many times for so many years they looked more like a rag used to clean the floor than something to cozy up into after a nice hot shower.
I recently took the plunge and bought a whole new set of crisp white, deep purple, dark blue towels and washcloths to replace the rag-looking pieces of cloth that had lost their lustre and fluffy feel.
But before I put them in the master bath cupboard I made sure to correctly wash and dry them. I learned the hard way when we were first married that the label from the manufacturer on the new bath linens is actually inaccurate.
When my husband and I were married many years ago we received a collection of gorgeous towels and washcloths as wedding gifts. They had beautiful patterns, a decorative band and came in gorgeous colours. It was so exciting for me as a new bride setting up our first home to receive such beautiful brand new bath linens.
Without any thought or understanding I tossed them into the washing machine according to the label and washed them in warm water and dried them in the dryer on a normal setting. When they came out of the dryer they were quite misshapen because the beautiful pattern and decorative band had shrunk due to the warm water temperature. My brand new towels that I received as a wedding gift looked wonky and very misshapen.
This past summer I celebrated my 35th wedding anniversary and those towels we received as a wedding gift are now long gone. During this time, we have replaced bath linens at least three different times. With constant daily use and regular washings and dryings, they only last for so long.
That first washing and drying of our brand new towels because I did not know what I was doing was very disappointing. I have since learned how to care for brand new bath linens. I have since learned the washing and drying instructions on the washing label is for regular washing of bath linens. It is not for bath linens that are not brand new.
It is through trial and error that I learned when buying or receiving brand new towels and washcloths they need a little bit of extra care. They need to be washed and dried in a certain way so they keep their shape and colour looking newer for a longer period of time.

I would also like to suggest that a couple of times after using your brand new bath linens you continue to cold wash and hang dry them just to make sure there is no fabric shrinkage. I do that just to make sure.
My new gorgeous pre-washed towels are ready to put in the master bathroom cupboard. They really do look soft, fluffy and will keep their gorgeous deep and crisp colours for a long time!
Final Comments: Why did I choose white, purple and dark blue bath linens? My husband uses them too and they are a nice male and female colour scheme. They are also my favourite colours; especially dark blue. It is even the colour I chose for my blog branding.
