At the end of this tutorial showing how to make a faux greenery big satin bow grapevine wreath you will see eleven other fabulous diverse projects created with equally diverse gorgeous types of ribbon!
If you are looking for a gorgeous wreath that is quick and easy to make, this is definitely a perfect choice. The main materials are a grapevine wreath or something similar, a faux greenery garland and wire edge satin ribbon. I used a wreath form that I bought on a clearance sale for a couple of dollars. I am amazed that this wreath was even sold at regular price because it was the ugliest wreath that I have ever seen. I just bought it for the wreath form. When I brought it home I cut off the wreath embellishments and threw them in the trash. This is what the original wreath looked like…
So with a clean wreath form to work with here are the detailed instructions with photos showing how to make a…
Faux Greenery Big Satin Bow Grapevine Wreath
- grapevine or similar type of wreath frame
- faux greenery garland
- brown coloured thick thread, thin macramé style rope
- 25 feet of 2 ½ inch wide green satin wire edge ribbon
- thin floral wire
- 9-inch strip of 2 ½ inch wide green stain wire edge ribbon
Step 1 – Attaching the faux greenery to the wreath form
Use thick brown thread, thin rope or macramé style rope to attach the faux greenery garland around the front of the wreath form. Tie the thread or thin rope over the greenery garland and secure at the back about two inches apart to really secure the garland to the wreath form.
Step 2 – Making the big satin bow
Fold the 25-foot length of ribbon in half and cut. Line up both sides of the ribbon with the front sides (shiny looking sides) facing out and the back sides (less shiny looking) facing in. You will be working with doubled up ribbon when you make the bow.
Starting in about the middle create an accordion like fold or flipping the ribbon back and forth as shown in the photograph. The length of the accordion folds will be about one foot. You should end up with two loops on both sides for a total of four loops. Try to make the loops about the same size but it does not have to be perfectly matched.
Secure the double bow with thin floral wire by tightly twisting the wire around the middle of the bow. Shape the bow and trim the ends.
Attach the bow to the top of the wreath with about a 9-inch strip of the green stain ribbon folded in thirds. Tie at the back of the wreath as shown in the photograph.
Make a wreath hanger by attaching a loop of thin green ribbon to the top of the back of the wreath.
Here it is finished and hanging on my black front door!
