Strawberry Banana Cauliflower Smoothie ~ Recipe for a nutritional and tasty smoothie made with frozen strawberries, frozen banana and cooked cauliflower!
Smoothies are a very clever beverage to include in your diet. When made with healthy natural ingredients and not too much sugar you get a glass full of nutrition.
Smoothies are also quite clever because it is amazing all the different kinds of ingredients you can put into a smoothie to make a tasty drink. They can be made with just fruits or just vegetables or a combination of both. Other ingredients like flax meal, chia seeds and peanut butter add protein when added. They only need to be sweetened with just a bit of natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup or agave nectar.
I recently came across a new cookbook that has just been published filled with smoothie and juicing recipes. I am having fun trying the different smoothie recipes in the cookbook Superfood Juicing & Smoothies published by Company’s Coming in their Practical Gourmet series.
My favourite recipe so far that I am sharing with you today is a Strawberry Banana Cauliflower smoothie. Did you notice an ingredient that you normally do not see in smoothies? It was the addition of cauliflower that really intrigued me. I had to give this recipe a try! I was not disappointed!
Cauliflower is a member of brassica family. It is loaded with Vitamin C and provides some fibre. Cauliflower is quite a versatile vegetable. It can be eaten raw with a dip. When cooked it can be served as florets or mashed which is one of my favourite vegetable dishes.
Interestingly, you do not taste the cauliflower in this smoothie recipe. What it does do is add a nice creamy texture.
A Strawberry Banana Cauliflower Smoothie is a great to make when you have leftover cauliflower. But you can also cook raw cauliflower in the microwave for a few minutes and run it under cold water afterwards to quickly cool it down.
Another ingredient in this smoothie is chia seeds. I really like smoothie recipes that are made with a couple of food groups. This one is made with two fruits, one vegetable and some seeds. The chia seeds up the protein value and make it an even more balanced nutritional beverage.
Lastly, when everything is mixed in a blender it makes a very pretty pink drink that is only 140 calories for one serving!
Here is the recipe for…
Strawberry Banana Cauliflower Smoothie
1 serving is 140 calories
2 cups frozen strawberries
1 frozen banana
1 cup cooked cauliflower, cooled
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 cup water
1 tsp maple syrup
8 ice cubes
Combine strawberries, banana, cauliflower, chia seeds, water and maple syrup in a blender until smooth.
Add the ice and blend again until smooth and icy.
Makes 2 servings.
Disclosure: I was given permission to replicate the recipe for Strawberry Banana Cauliflower Smoothie on ‘Time With Thea’. I was compensated by Company’s Coming for this post. However, the opinions expressed are my own. It really is a fabulous cookbook filled with great recipes and gorgeous photography.
Final Comments: The recipe called for one teaspoon of maple syrup but I confess that I like to add two teaspoons. I love maple syrup! It must be the Canadian in me. That being said you can also use honey or agave nectar and it will be just as tasty!
Your Turn: Do you like to eat cauliflower? What is your favourite way to enjoy this vegetable?
