Outdoor Porch Spring Decorating Ideas ~ A collection of beautiful and simple to make ideas to decorate your outdoor front porch for the spring season. Your outdoor porch can look gorgeous during the day and at night!
It is finally done and I am now ready to share my outdoor porch spring decorating ideas!
I have been sharing individual projects on the blog and now I am proud to take you on a little tour! But before I do I want to share with you all of the things I thought about when putting it together.
I wanted to crank up the curb appeal several notches on a nice but basic looking front walkway and entrance. It is amazing how a few spring themed items can add both a decorative and welcoming touch!
The exterior of our home is a light beige almost peachy kind of colour. I decided to go with purple tones because it would be a nice contrast. I also like to work with white because it goes with everything! You will also notice the flower pots, rain boots and lanterns are black. They coordinate perfectly with our black front door.
I live in Canada near the Rocky Mountains. We are fortunate to have four seasons where the summers can get really hot and the winters can get really cold. It is not uncommon for us to have freezing temperatures into the month of May. As a matter of fact, the thermometer dipped down to -4 C (25 F) early this morning. So even though I was decorating for spring I had to keep in mind there will probably be rainy days but there could also be snowfall and maybe even a snowstorm.
I tried not to go overboard with the items for several reasons. I did not want the porch to look too busy and cluttered. I also had to make sure there was a lot of space for people to safely use the stairs and porch area without having to worry about tripping or knocking anything over.
I find when things get too expensive it stops being fun. I saved costs by using what I already had, upcycling, looking for sales and shopping at the dollar store. I plan to reuse some of the items each season by changing up their decorations.
All of the ideas I am sharing are very easy to make. I also provide links to step-by-step tutorials to make it easy for you to replicate and create your own version.
Outdoor Porch Spring Decorating Ideas
House Number Flower Pots
The flower pots are plant pots I bought at IKEA. The gold house numbers are made from number stickers applied to the plant pots. Here is the full tutorial for Make Your Own Beautiful House Number Flower Pots . They are one of the easiest DIY projects I have shared on the blog.
The pansies are a perfect flower to plant for the spring season. They can withstand temperatures to -8 degrees Celsius or 17.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
I love the colour of this pansy variety. I also love how they are thriving in their location on the front porch. I planted one pansy in each house number flower pot near the beginning of April.
This is how they look about a month later. Each plant is now loaded with gorgeous purple flowers.
Large-Size Spring Decorated Outdoor Lantern
If you have been following me on Time With Thea you will recognize this outdoor lantern. I bought it last year and made it into a Fall Decorated Outdoor Lantern and a Christmas Decorated Outdoor Lantern. I share the details and how easy it was to decorate for the outdoor spring porch in Gorgeous Spring Decorated Outdoor Lantern. I should explain this outdoor lantern came with a battery operated candle with a timer. Not only does it look pretty during the day but it lights up beautifully at night.
Spring And Summer Decorated Wreath
I loved making and how this wreath turned out. I made it just using white silk flowers and green silk foliage so it will coordinate with any other colour. I plan to hang it on the front door from the beginning of May till the end of August.
I have to admit this was costlier and complicated DIY project. But try not to look at it and say to yourself that it is too hard to make. I share how a detailed step-by-step tutorial with photographs in How To Make A Fabulous Wreath . I made this wreath a few years ago and plan to hang it my front door spring and summer for several more years. It was well worth making because I will use it for many more years.
Now let us move over to the right side of the outdoor porch.
Spring Decorated Rain Boot Vases
These black boots used to be uncomfortable to wear and were ugly faded pink patterned rubber boots to look at. I upcycled them into Spring Decorated Rain Boot Vases . It was so easy to do and I love how they turned out. For the spring season I placed purple silk tulips inside and attached a bold purple satin ribbon tied into a big bow around the top. Later in the summer I plan to use them to hold real cut flowers from the garden inside tall cylinder vases inserted inside the rain boots. The lilacs are now beginning to bloom and they will look fabulous!
Two Small-Size Outdoor Lanterns
I bought the two lanterns at IKEA and placed a battery operated candle with a timer that I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond inside each one. I also bought a strand of greenery at the dollar store, cut it in half and wrapped each half loosely around the candle.
This was literally a five-minute DIY project. Notice also that even though I bought the greenery garland at the dollar store I still had to pay $2.00 for it. Some things are always more expensive in Canada.
Decorated For Daytime And Nighttime
There was one more thing I thought about when coming up with my outdoor porch spring decorating ideas. I wanted to decorate it for both daytime and nighttime. I love how welcoming it is for visitors and people passing by and I also love how it adds a bit more security by adding more light thanks to the battery operated candles that are timed to be lit up for four hours each night.
Here are a few more nighttime beauty shots….
You can see in this photograph that I also have a pansy decorated flag and you can catch glimpses of the matching outdoor mat placed in front of the front door. Both were gifts from a girlfriend several years ago. We have a cute little shop on main street in the town I live in that carries all kinds of seasonal decorative flags and matching rubber mat inserts.
Final Comments: Once the spring pansies stop thriving because the summer temperatures will get too hot I plan to replace them with a different kind of annual. Stay tuned to see what I choose when I share how this same outdoor porch looks during the summer months.
