This Homemade Barbecue Spice Rub Meat Gift is very versatile. It adds a lovely deep flavor to a variety of meats including poultry, beef steak, beef roast, pork roast, pork chops, ribs and even thicker cuts of fish. All you have to do is rub it over the meat prior to roasting or cooking on the grill.
When you are finished mixing the spices and herbs together you will end up with about 3 cups. This is perfect because I used the wider 1-cup mason jars that use a wide rim and lid. You end up with three homemade barbecue spice meat rub gifts. This 1-cup is a perfect amount because it can be sued several different times on the different meats. If you want to make more gifts it is easy to double or triple the quantities.
I prepared printable labels for you providing information about the ingredients and the instructions. The labels are sized to fit on top of a wide Mason jar lid.
Here is how to make a…
Homemade Barbecue Spice Meat Rub Gift
- 1-cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup dry mustard powder
- 1/4 cup sea salt
- 1/4 cup black pepper
- 3 tablespoons paprika
- 4 teaspoons dried thyme
- 4 teaspoons dried oregano
- 4 teaspoons cayenne pepper
- 4 teaspoons allspice
Combine all ingredients. Place in a food processor and process for about 1 minute making sure there are no lumps remaining in the mixture.
This is what the rub looks like when the dried spices and herbs are mixed together. Not only is it very colourful it is also very fragrant.
Print and cut out the Barbecue Spice Meat Rub printable. You will notice that you will have to clip each corner a bit for it to fit on the lid.
Apply each label to the lid with double-side tape.
This step is optional but adding washi tape gives a mason jar a very nice decorative look and it is very easy to work with. I applied two strips of the same colour on each Mason jar. I applied one strip near the top of the jar just under the rim and a second strip near the bottom.
Fill each jar to almost full with about 1 cup of the barbecue spice meat rub. Place the lid with the label taped on top and secure with the Mason jar rim.
That is it! That is how to make a Homemade Barbecue Spice Meat Rub Gift!
Final Comments: I bought the dried spices and herbs at a bulk food store to save costs. For Sunday dinner tonight I am going to rub it on a pork roast and cook it in the oven. It will be very tasty served with mashed potatoes and mashed cauliflower!
