Thrift Store Blue Glass Bowl Becomes Seashore Vignette ~ Turn a thrift store into a beautiful vignette to showcase your seashore vacation souvenirs!
I love visiting the ocean for lots of reasons! First of all, I live quite a distance from hearing the sound of waves splashing and the smell of the salty air. I enjoy walking the beach in my bare feet and love being in the water on a hot summer day! It is also such a beautiful landscape compared to the Rocky Mountains and prairie land where I live.
I also love stopping by the local thrift store and seeing what treasures they have to offer that I can use to create something new to enjoy or use. I have been keeping an eye out for blue pieces to add to my garden and outdoor patio. I particularly love the dark blue or cobalt blue colour. I recently created a DIY Cobalt Blue Glass Vase Bird Bath that I made from a large cobalt blue vase I bought at the thrift store. I am hoping to slowly add more inexpensive and interesting pieces to my outdoor spaces.
When I came across a gorgeous big blue bowl during a recent trip to the thrift store I knew right away what I wanted to create with it. I like to collect a bit of sand from the different seashores around the world whenever I am traveling. I am not talking about a big amount. Just about ¼ cup. I also love going beachcombing and looking for pretty little seashells and other little interesting seashore items. With my souvenir beach sand, seashells and seashore items I wanted to create something to keep and showcase my little collection. I also found a beautiful cobalt blue glass star candleholder at the thrift store. So with the blue glass bowl and star I knew I had some perfect anchor pieces to create a seashore vignette.
I am so glad you stopped by to see how this thrift store blue glass bowl becomes seashore vignette was put together! I have teamed up with fourteen other talented bloggers who love to work with and give thrift store items a new life to use and enjoy. At the end of this post you find links to some other fabulous ideas to inspire you. Even better news is we bloggers will be meeting up once a month and sharing different projects based on a different theme. The theme for this month is ‘Outdoor Project Ideas’ and we are calling it the ‘Junk Revision Challenge’.
This is also one of those projects that after you have found the anchor pieces it literally takes minutes to put together. Here are the instructions for…
Thrift Store Blue Glass Bowl Becomes Seashore Vignette
- large blue glass bowl
- cobalt blue glass star candleholder
- beach sand
- small seashells
- small seashore items
- blue and white pieces of sea glass
Combine the collected beach sand and place along the bottom of the glass bowl.
Place the cobalt blue glass candleholder in the middle on top of the sand.
Arrange the small seashells and other seashore items around the candleholder on top of the sand.
Arrange a few pieces of sea glass around the seashells and seashore items on top of the sand.
Place the candle in the candleholder.
That is it! It is most likely that you will not be able to find exactly the same blue glass bowl and cobalt blue glass star candleholder that I found at the thrift store. But I hope this idea has inspired you to find some similar anchor pieces to create your own seashore vignette to hold your souvenir beach sand!
This is where I placed this project! It fits perfectly on our outdoor patio!
Now let the fun begin with finding out what the other team members in the ‘Junk Revision Challenge’ created. For loads of inspiration and ideas click on the links below! Which one catches your eye! It is amazing what can be created from someone else’s trash!

By the way… I am on the Sunshine Coast in Australia visiting my daughter for a month when Thrift Store Blue Glass Bowl Becomes Seashore Vignette was posted. I am walking the beach everyday enjoying the seashore and will be returning with just a bit of beach sand to add to my seashore vignette!
