Large Size Paper Storage Idea ~ Do you have some large size paper, poster board and similar sized items that are an awkward size to store in your home? I have a really smart solution for you!
Large size of paper is nice to have around the house for different crafts and projects. But unfortunately it is bulky and inconvenient to store. It doesn’t look very attractive being stored out in the open so it usually ends up being kept at the back of a closet or under a bed.
When I worked as an elementary school teacher I had to store all kinds of classroom materials including large paper supplies and bulletin board posters. As teachers we were provided with storage units and cupboards from the school for a lot of the supplies and materials. But teachers are also very skilled, talented and creative when it comes to designing their own storage ideas too! It is amazing the storage we can create from recycled, reused, thrift store and dollar store items. If you get a chance to be in an elementary classroom I encourage you to take a look around for some inspiration and some great ideas that you might be able to use in your home storage. I have to say it is the kindergarten teachers that have the most amazing ideas!
I have to admit that storing large paper in my classroom was the most challenging. I often kept it tucked away behind cupboards. It wasn’t ideal but it worked. If you look online horizontal storage made for large papers is very pricey and it is generally designed for engineering and architectural firms to use for storing their blueprints. These companies also have the space for storing these horizontal units.
So what can we do at home to store large size paper without it being too expensive and without it taking up too much room? In my previous post I shared a really smart idea for How To Store Large Size Paper. This idea keeps the papers safe, is inexpensive, does not take up a lot of room and is super easy to put together.
Now that the papers are complied and stored safely and compactly they need to be stored somewhere in the house. This is the other smart idea I came up with! This is my…
Large Size Paper Storage Idea!
In my craft room along one wall I have a plastic storage unit that holds a variety of craft supplies. Next to it is a storage unit for storing scrapbooking and craft paper that I bought at Michaels. Next to that is white IKEA dresser that I bought 27 years ago when my first daughter was born. This was her little dresser that was perfect for storing her little baby pieces of clothing and accessories. This little dresser was then passed on to her little sister when she was born. After both girls grew from their baby years they each got new IKEA dressers that were taller and had much larger drawers that were better for storing their larger pieces of clothing and accessories. The little dresser then became a storage unit for my sewing and quilting supplies!
I placed the dresser about eight inches away from the wall.
Then I placed a white LINNMON desk or tabletop (47 ¼ x 23 5/8”) (120 x 60 cm) (not sponsored) that I purchased at IKEA on top of the dresser. You will notice that the front of the tabletop is even with the front of the dresser. You will also notice that the paper storage almost fits perfectly underneath the length of the tabletop. There is a bit of a gap between the two but I just inserted a storage tray made from a paper box lid that I share in this post How To Make A Storage Tray. I use repurposed lids to store my project materials and this one fits perfectly tucked away in that open space.
Now let’s take a peek at what it looks like behind the dresser….
I call this my sneaky hidden space for storing large size paper and anything else that is big and bulky. This is how my smart idea for How To Store Large Size Paper fits perfectly in this hidden space!
I even have some room to store some picture frames, art canvas, cutting mats and cardboard pieces.
When you look at everything from the front you don’t see what is being stored behind the dresser!
Not only have I created a really smart and convenient large paper size storage idea but I have also created a perfect workstation. The tabletop is a perfect surface to work on crafts and projects while standing! I even get to look out the window while I work! This is where I stood and worked on these really cute ‘Thank You Berry Much’ thank you cards!
