North Hatley: Beautiful Village In The Quebec Eastern Townships ~ It is truly a picturesque village filled with gorgeous floral displays during the summer.
There are quite a few adjectives that can be used to describe the village of North Hatley. It is truly charming, quaint, tranquil and one of the most beautiful villages in the Quebec Eastern Townships.
The Eastern Townships are located in southern Quebec in Canada. The Eastern Townships is a stunning area to tour where driving on country roads where you will see delightful villages and towns as well as gorgeous scenery.
I have been fortunate to visit North Hatley many times during different times of the year. I have good friends who live in this beautiful village and my younger daughter attended university nearby. On this blog I occasionally like to go on what I call a field trip with my readers and take you on a tour of some places I have visited.
I call North Hatley a ‘hidden treasure’ because it is not well known around the world despite being such a beautiful village because of where it is located. It is also the stunning container gardens that make it even more beautiful. Allow me to take you on a little tour to show you what I am talking about…
North Hatley: Beautiful Village In The Quebec Eastern Townships
North Hatley has a lot of beauty and quaintness packed into a small village. The population is about 700 people. It is located at the north end of Lake Massawippi. The lake is about 14 km long and is perfect for boating, sailing and swimming. Visitors can also go biking, golfing, hiking, walking, browsing in the boutiques, dining in the restaurants and relaxing in the parks.
Even though Quebec is a French speaking province you will hear a lot of English in North Hatley. This is because North Hatley became a tourist destination for wealthy American tourists in the late 19th century. Many built their summer homes in North Hatley so they could return every year and still continue to do so.
We recently stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast. This is what many of the older homes look like with their large white painted verandas in the front.
The thing I love the most about North Hatley is how the town creates and maintains stunning container gardens of all shapes, sizes and filled with different blooming flowers. They can be admired at eye level….
…and looking above.
The town even hires someone who drives around everyday with a small truck filled with a large water container and attached hose. It takes several hours every day to water every floral display.
Even the window boxes out front of the boutiques and restaurants are filled with gorgeous blooms.
The large white gazebo is located in the park at the end of Lake Massawippi. Many visitors spend their time reading or having a picnic at the park. Outdoor concerts are held every week in the gazebo during the summer.
A pier was built that goes out onto the lake. It is a perfect spot for taking in the breathtaking view.
I do hope you enjoyed this little field trip. I could have photographed and shared with you many more delights that make this village a hidden treasure. But I felt it is the stunning floral displays and container gardens that really give an added touch of beauty.
