Spring is here so that means the new fresh spring and summer fruit is beginning to show up in the grocery stores and the farmer’s markets. I have to admit that fruit is my favourite food group…. even more than the chocolate food group. I also quite enjoy cooking with fruit. Desserts like fruit crisps and fruit pies are my favourite. I also enjoy making different jams because the taste is so much better than the store bought version and I have to admit the jars look so pretty filled with jam.
I recently shared the recipe and instructions for how to make what I call Less Sugar Homemade Strawberry Jam. I didn’t call it low sugar because it still has 4 ½ cups of sugar and when you think about it that is not really a low number. But you still need sugar combined with the strawberries to give it a jam consistency. I chose to make the less sugar variety because I am really counting my calories right now and working on losing some weight. Since retiring almost two years ago the pounds have crept on. I didn’t realize how many calories I burned working. I went to put on a pair of my favourite khakis a few weeks ago and they did not zip up. That was my ‘wake up’ moment and since then I have been really watching what I am eating and counting calories as well as exercising every day. I am happy to say that I have shed five pounds and have another five to go to get to the weight I was at when I was working. I have actually set a goal to lose a total of 25 pounds by the end of August so I will keep you posted with my progress.
It is really easy to make and use these…

I much prefer to make my own labels for the jam I make because it is fun to do. They look much prettier than the purchased oval generic self-adhesive ones you can buy. They also look prettier than just writing on the lid with a black marking pen. But the main reason why I prefer making my own labels is because I find it annoying to have to scrape the glue residue off left behind from the self-adhesive label when I am cleaning the empty jar.
I have provided for you three different versions in PDF format of these free homemade strawberry jam printable labels to provide you with some options…
The Less Sugar Strawberry Jam version can be used with a recipe that uses less sugar.
The Homemade Strawberry Jam label is designed for a recipe that uses the regular amount of sugar.

There are two labels per sheet that you can print on plain white printer paper. One label fits perfectly on the glass jar when cut out. The second label may need to be trimmed a tiny bit to fit on the lid. You can place a lid on the label to trace and cut out the exact size. I also find that using a pair of small sharp scissors makes it easier to cut out a small circle shape.
To make things really simple, double-sided tape was used to adhere the label onto the glass jar and the lid. The photograph shows how I applied the tape.
After taping both labels on you may have to use your fingers to smooth out some wrinkles. I have to admit I like a little bit of a wrinkled look.
Finish off the jar by tying some baker’s twine, a narrow ribbon or my favourite paper string that you can buy. I really like working with the paper rope and how it looks when tied into a bow. The finished jam jar makes a nice little thank you, hostess or just because kind of gift!
So I hope you enjoy using the free homemade strawberry jam printable labels. They are quite unique and look really pretty on the jam jar. They are inexpensive and easy to make. Best of all, they are easy to remove when the jar is empty and needs to be cleaned.
