Starry Christmas Arrangement With Birch Logs ~ Outdoor arrangement made with fresh Christmas greenery, three birch logs and gold grapevine stars!
I have been busy creating projects inside and outside the house for Christmas and I want to share with you my latest! I have wanted to make a Christmas arrangement with birch logs for awhile now. But the question for me was how to make it special with a personal touch. I ended up making it into a ‘Starry’ Christmas arrangement. Let me explain how I did it!
I bought the gold metallic grapevine large star at the thrift store. When I bought it I had no idea what I was going to do with it but I knew it could come in handy. The smaller stars were purchased at Pier 1 Imports for about $1.00 each. That was another purchase where I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with them but I knew they would serve a purpose and they sure did with this project!
Materials For A Starry Christmas Arrangement With Birch Logs
- plant pot – I recommend a deep and heavy pot to be able to support the birch logs
- planter soil
- 3 birch logs (5 feet tall)
- several red branches
- winter greenery – I used scotch pine and boxwood
- grapevine gold metallic stars – one large and several small
- gold metallic thread and/or transparent jewelry cord
- green metallic Christmas balls
- burlap ribbon bow
Instructions For Making A Starry Christmas Arrangement With Birch Logs
I chose to trim two of the birch logs so they were all different heights to make the arrangement more visually interesting. I cut off about 12 in (30 cm) off of one birch log and 6 in (15 cm) off of the second birch log.
This step works best if someone is there to help you support the birch logs while you firmly pack soil around the logs into the plant pot.
Insert the red branches into the soil towards the centre around the three birch logs.
Insert the greenery making sure to have it ‘splash’ around and over the base of the plant pot.
Attach the large grapevine metallic star towards the upper half of two of the birch logs using the gold metallic thread or transparent jewelry cord. This also helps support the birch logs.
Place the green metallic Christmas balls amongst the greenery around the base of the arrangement. It helps to attach them with the thread or cord. My arrangement is tucked away in the corner of the front entrance where it will not be exposed to any strong winds. But if your arrangement will be placed out in the open you will want to make sure these embellishments are secure. I added the green metallic Christmas balls just to fill the base of the arrangement and to give it a bit of sparkle. I also love how the green metallic looks against the greenery.
Insert a big burlap bow. If you want to know how to make a big bow like this I provide the instructions here at How To Make A Big Bow Photo Tutorial.
Enjoy! Admire! Be proud!
That’s it! I am super excited and thrilled with how this Starry Christmas Arrangement With Birch Logs turned out. I can’t believe how easy it was to put it together!
I plan to use the birch logs on the outdoor patio this summer and I will be sharing what I did with them!
You may recognize the burlap ribbon because I used it all summer in the outdoor urn for my summer outdoor planter.
This is what it looks like at the front entrance.
This is what the walkway up to the front door looks like. I explain how I made the Christmas floral outdoor planter here at 5 Step Instructions: How To Design An Christmas Outdoor Floral Arrangement.
Notice how I carry the starry theme with the star mobile I purchased a few years ago!
Notice also the snow! The day I took the photographs we had a pretty snowfall and I was outside in the morning sweeping the snow off the front steps and shovelling it off the front walkway and driveway. I guess winter is here!
Here is a tour of what rest of my home looks like at Christmas time…
I would love to hear about your outdoor Christmas arrangements and if you have worked with birch logs. I have to admit that I love how they look in this starry Christmas arrangement!
