Useful Stylish Kitchen Sink Accessories ~ Do you find the kitchen sink area can look pretty cluttered at times? I decided that the kitchen sink area does not have to look cluttered and I came up with my own idea for useful stylish kitchen sink accessories.
When you think about it there’s a lot of accessories that need to be near the kitchen sink that are used regularly to help with the daily task of washing dishes. This includes your scrubbers, soaps, cloths and whatever you use to place the dishes on after they have been washed to dry. It can all look pretty cluttered and the clutter factor increases when the dirty dishes that are sitting on the counter waiting to be washed are added to the mix.
Our kitchen recently went through some renovations where we had a new granite countertop, dishwasher, kitchen sink and faucet installed. These renovations were not actually planned but we had some water damage occur due to a defective kitchen sink faucet (I won’t say the name of the company brand). I called myself a reluctant renovator here I Have Become An Accidental Reluctant Home Renovator where you can see some before and during photographs of what my kitchen used to look like and what it looked like for several months while the work was being completed.
There are still a couple of smaller things I want to have done in the kitchen and when that’s done I will write a post with the big reveal and take you on a tour. In the meantime I can give you look at how I organized my kitchen sink area.
I have some favourite kitchen sink accessories that I like to use with the lovely task (I am being cheeky here) of keeping the kitchen and dishes clean. These are the accessories I have out in the open right beside the kitchen sink:
Soap Dispensing Scrubbers
It was actually my sister-n-law who got me onto using these. I admire her for her commitment to looking after the environment and this is one of the many ways she does it. You know when you only have a few dishes to wash at a time? These brushes are fabulous for just running a bit of water and dispensing some soap right from the dispenser to clean the one or two dishes. It saves not having to fill a sink with water!
These scrubbers work very well to clean the dishes and they look very pretty filled with the coloured dish soap. My kitchen sink window is very tall and faces southeast so a lot of sunshine can stream in over top of the sink area. It’s a small detail but I love how it shines through the green liquid soaps.
I also love that now that I have invested in the two scrubbers I can replace the brushes when they get too soiled and overused. It’s so easy to do and saves money in the long term.
I also have a scrub sponge handy for cleaning the stubborn dishes. I keep one near the kitchen sink and store the rest underneath in the cabinet. I share how I store my other kitchen sink accessories that are hidden away in Kitchen Sink Cabinet Storage Ideas.
Hand Washing Soap Dispenser
It’s so important to keep your hands clean when working with food so a hand washing soap dispenser is a must have. I bought this one recently at Costco. I love how the dispenser is a pretty green colour and when it’s empty I can just refill it.
I bought an off white rectangular serving dish in the same colour as the tile backsplash. This is where I place my go-to kitchen sink accessories. I love this storage idea because the scrubbers can easily dry and it looks very stylish! I just add this dish to the dishwater every so often when I notice it looking soiled to keep it clean and sanitized. When I wipe around the kitchen sink all I have to do is move away the dish in one sweep, give it a wipe and put it back in place. Super easy.
Dish Drying Mats
I fell in love with these dish-drying mats a few years ago. I always felt the larger bulky dish drying racks and mats looked cluttered and took up a lot of room on the kitchen counter. I also had nowhere to hide them in a cupboard because there was no room so they always sat on the countertop. I keep one mat on the countertop and because it’s black you can hardly see it sitting on the black granite countertop.
When I have a lot of dishes to do I have a second one I bring out that I store in a drawer. They are easy to clean because I just throw them in the wash every so often and hang dry them.
You will notice that I went with a double sink where one side is larger than the other side. The larger tub is for the dish cleaning and the smaller tub is for rinsing and food prep. I keep this rectangular food strainer handy for rinsing my fruits and vegetables.
Here’s a bit of interesting trivia that I didn’t know before. Most double sinks like this one with a larger tub and a smaller tub are designed to work from left to right. Just the way my countertop space works we have always worked from right to left. As a result, this kitchen sink had to be special ordered. Who knew?
Dish cloths can also be stylish too! I bought pretty green ones to match the green coloured soaps!
I will be honest that purchasing all of these kitchen sink accessories was a bit of an investment but I think it’s well worth it. I estimate the cost for everything was about $50.00 to $60.00.
That got me thinking that a collection of these kitchen sink accessories would make a really nice wedding, shower, new homeowner or even Christmas gift. Arrange all of these items in a gift basket and you are giving both a very useful and stylish gift that will definitely be used everyday!
