Smoked Salmon Appetizer ~ Where did the year go? I can’t believe that it’s the end of the year in just a couple of days.
My husband and I chose several years ago not to do a lot to bring in the New Year. We actually prefer to stay in with our daughters and have an appetizer dinner. Sometimes I don’t even last till midnight to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I’ve been known to go to bed before the special hour. I much prefer to wake up to when you think about it a new day, new month and New Year feeling rested and refreshed.
One of our favourite treats that we have been making for years is a Smoked Salmon Appetizer. It is super easy to prepare and super tasty. It even looks quite pretty on a serving dish.
I love smoked salmon. It’s like eating tender candy. My favourite is the Wild Smoked Sockeye Salmon that I buy at Costco. It’s so tasty with a bit of cream cheese spread, red chilli pepper jelly and green jalapeño pepper jelly served with a cracker.
I have to confess that this dish is my ‘go to’ appetizer. I’ve been known to serve it at a summer barbecue with pre-dinner drinks, visiting with friends while enjoying a bottle of wine or for sure our annual New Year’s appetizer dinner.
I intentionally didn’t give quantities for the ingredients because it really depends on how many appetizers you are making. I am sure you will love it too!
Here’s a printable recipe for Smoked Salmon Appetizer
- crackers of your choice (larger ones work best)
- plain cream cheese spread
- smoked salmon
- red chilli pepper jelly
- green jalapeño pepper jelly
- Spread a layer of cream cheese on a cracker.
- Place a slice of smoked salmon that fits the size of the cracker on top of the cream cheese.
- Put a dollop of the red chilli pepper jelly or green jalapeño pepper jelly on top of the salmon.
- Arrange on a serving platter and serve.
That’s it! Sometimes I just arrange the crackers, salmon and jellies on a serving platter and let my guests make their own. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
