My Fall Vignette Just For Fun! ~ I want to share My Fall Vignette Just For Fun! we created in honour of Canadian Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians and if you are not celebrating Thanksgiving today or it is not a holiday that you recognize wherever you live in the world, I invite you to take a moment today to reflect upon and be thankful for something that you cherish and possibly take for granted.
I want to share with you a fall DIY décor project my daughter, Brittany and I had a lot of fun designing and making for the fall season. It was actually her idea to put this fall vignette together! She wanted to create a scene of having different kinds of ‘falling’ leaves. I think she did an amazing job!
Brittany originally wanted to have it go down the staircase but it didn’t work that well. We finally decided just to have the fall vignette cascade down a section of the staircase.
We also had never worked with deco mesh before so it took awhile for us to get the hang of it. It took several tries getting the sweeping look and draping effect just right.
This really was a project that ended up looking totally different from the general idea Brittany and I (working under her direction) started with. It took a lot of problem solving, revising and re-doing but I am so thrilled with the final look. It was also loads of fun to spend time together crafting and chatting!
Here Is How We Put Together My Fall Vignette Just For Fun! …
We started with the orange mesh that was bought at Michaels with a 40% coupon. As you can see we just kind of secured it to two staircase posts and draped it down the rails and the wall below.
Next we added two strands of the copper ribbon that we draped over the orange mesh.
We also bought some brown ribbon to use in the same way but it had a plastic backing on it that made it very stiff to work with so we didn’t use it the way we had intended. Instead, we draped it over the green chair that usually sits at the front entrance. Several years ago, my very talented father painted this antique chair with lovely little flowers. But the flowers didn’t look very ‘fallish’ so we just covered them for this vignette.
There are three different kinds of leaves pinned to the mesh and ribbon. I found the large leaves at Walmart for only $1.50 per package so I bought two packages. I’ve had the smaller leaves for years and used them have used them all kinds of different ways. I honestly have no idea where I picked them up. We made the painted leaves using card stock paper, acrylic paint and glitter. I should also add that we doubled each leaf by gluing two cut out leaves together so they were sturdier. We also only painted one side. I have to admit I like them even more than the purchased leaves. They are so pretty! I had suggested to Brittany that we flatten them by putting them inside a book before we put them up. But she thought it would be better not to since the curled and crinkled effect was more authentic. Smart girl!
Basket on the Chair
I bought the basket, ornamental fall pumpkins and gourds at thrift stores years ago. I can’t remember how much I paid for them but if you know me, it wouldn’t have been a lot. We popped a few of the leaves in the basket to make it look like this is where they landed when they fell down. The beaded spray that you see coming out of the basket was also something I picked up very inexpensively at a clearance sale.
Fall Flower Arrangement
We also put a couple of leaves in this lovely fall arrangement in a ceramic watering can that I had made several years ago. Again, it looks like they landed on the arrangement.
I bought this lovely chalkboard a few years ago in a lovely gift shop in the Eastern townships in Quebec. It is mounted permanently in this spot. Brittany just taped a few leaves around it and quickly jotted the message ‘Happy Fall’ to finish off the vignette.
Here is another photograph. I love how the leaves look like against the orange deco mesh.
This fall vignette is the first thing you see when you come in the front door! So using a lot of what we already had in the house with a few new purchases Brittany and I made a very pretty DIY fall project!
Update: Brittany and I had so much fun creating My Fall Vignette Just For Fun we decided to use some of this design and add to a A Fun Halloween Vignette. Click the link for some more fun inspiration!

There are still several more weeks before winter arrives!
