Today is Canada Day! ~ July 1st is Canada’s birthday! To help recognize this special birthday I do a little bit of outdoor decorating! I hang a red and white wreath I made especially for this day and I insert red and white flags into the outdoor planters.
Here’s some trivia about Canada you may not know:
- It became a nation in 1867. That makes us only 146 years old.
- It is the second largest country in the world.
- The population is around 34.48 million people. In comparison the tiny country of The Netherlands has 16.69 people and the large state of California has 37.69 million people.
- The Canadian flag is red and white and is simply known as the Maple Leaf.
I just wanted to share with you how I show my Canadian spirit!
I made this wreath a couple of years ago. It hangs on the front door for about a week before and a week after the July 1st date.
I bought these Canadian Maple Leaf flags and maple leaf foil sprays at the dollar store and just put them in the front container garden pots.
I also inserted red and white Canadian Flags into some other outdoor container gardens to help recognize this special birthday!
We are celebrating by having friends over for dinner. The menu is nothing fancy but all foods from Canada including barbecued Atlantic Steelhead Trout, roasted potatoes, green beans, carrot sticks with BC Okanagan wine.
Canada has some wonderful vineyard areas. I wrote about a wine tour I took with some friends last year titled An Organized, Planned And Collaborative Wine Tasting Tour. You just have to take a look at the photographs I posted in this blog because it really is a stunning area. This is an example of how stunning this area of Canada is…
Here is a link to Hello BC with more information about this part of Canada in case you are interested.
After dinner we are taking our lawn chairs and walking to the park to enjoy an outdoor concert by three different Canadian country and western singers. The weather today is sunny and hot. Perfect for really enjoying the day!
I also want to say Happy Birthday to our US neighbours. Your big day of celebration is coming up in a couple of days on July 4th!
So Happy Birthday Canada!
If you are Canadian, how are you celebrating today?
