Making Applesauce – Part 4 – Ten Ways To Enjoy Applesauce ~ Applesauce is tasty, nutritious, low calorie and very versatile. It can be eaten on its own or combined with other foods for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
I just chopped, cooked and froze 30 cups of applesauce using fresh SunCrisp apples from the BC Okanagan. What are the different ways it can be enjoyed?
I promise. This is the last but the best of the four part series on applesauce. Here are the ten ways to enjoy applesauce…
10 – When my children were babies I froze it in ice cube trays creating individual servings. When the applesauce cubes were frozen I stored them in labeled re-sealable bags. Very easy, nutritious and economical baby food.
9 – I use it when baking applesauce muffins, applesauce cookies and applesauce cake (which is my dad’s favourite).
8 – It is a tasty condiment when serving pork chops, pork roast or pork tenderloin.
7 – I kid you not, my brother used to put applesauce on everything when we were growing up. His favourite was to pour it over boiled potatoes. It actually is quite tasty.
6 – I love cooked oatmeal for breakfast topped with applesauce and drizzled with a little maple syrup. It tastes just like apple crisp for breakfast!
5 – I mix it with cottage cheese for a tasty snack that includes a protein, a dairy and a fruit.
4 – I love the thick creamy texture of Greek yogurt mixed with applesauce and drizzled with just a little honey. Quite delicious!
3 – Or, spread a tortilla wrap with peanut butter, a bit of honey and applesauce. Roll up tight and enjoy for breakfast, lunch or a snack.
I saved my two favourite ways for last…
2 – I like to plop about a tablespoon of applesauce on blueberry pancakes and then drizzle some maple syrup over top. This is indeed very yummy.
1 – Lastly, here is a recipe for my favourite way to use applesauce. It is a quick prep breakfast that consists of dairy, fruit, protein and a carbohydrate. Very tasty, filling and nutritious.
