Organizing For Long Flight ~ I am Organizing For A Long Flight! In a few days I am leaving for Australia. My daughter is going to medical school in this ‘down under’ country and I am going to hang out with her for a month.
Australia is very far way. The travel time is going to be about 25 hours from door to door. The flight time is going to be about 20 hours from departure point to destination point. Frankly, that is a long time to be on an airplane and to be in transit.
I have never traveled this significant distance or this length of time. But from the other flights I have taken, I know it is essential to be organized and prepared for a comfortable journey. I have organized a number of comforts and ‘busy work’ items that hopefully will make the journey less gruelling. I have collected and purchased most of them in preparation for the upcoming journey. Here they are in random order:
Items To Pack In A Carry-On Bag When Organizing For A Long Flight
Eye mask and Ear Plugs: I plan on sleeping a large portion of the flight so hopefully these items will simulate nighttime by shutting out the sights and sounds on the airplane.
Travel Pillow: It is not photographed because I plan on purchasing one at the airport to hopefully, add comfort to my upright sleeping position.
Hunger Games Novel: I have not read this book yet because I have been planning to read it on this long flight. So many people have told me that it is so good that it is difficult to put down. What a great book for the flight!
iPad: I have downloaded some movies on this device but have not had the time to watch them. I plan on my viewing some movies during the flight.
iPhone and Ear Buds: While this device is on Airplane Mode I will be listening to my playlists. I have about 1500 songs on my playlist including an assortment of genres ranging from classical to country to pop to rock. It will be great to have time to do this!
Magazines: Thank you to my friend Lynn who gave me a bon voyage gift! Three magazines to keep me occupied on the flight!
Notebook: I always like to brainstorm ideas. My notebook keeps a record of my ideas as well as my travel information and plans. Just sitting on an airplane with no place to go is a great place to collect and record my thoughts.
Power Bars: Just in case I get hungry between inflight meals I will pack a couple of protein bars.
Water Bottle: Once I go through security I will purchase a couple of water bottles to keep me hydrated during the flight. Somehow those little cups of water the flight staff serve intermittently throughout the flight just do not help satisfy my thirst.
Canadian Passport and Luggage Tag – Just to add colour to the photo and showcase what country I come from and to reinforce how far away Australia is from Canada.

Since I will be in transit and catching up with my daughter who I have not seen for quite a while, I will not be on the blogging scene for a couple of weeks. However, I do plan on blogging while at my new travel destination. So stay tuned for my blogs from ‘down under’.
Do you have any suggestions to make the time fly by on this lengthy flight?
Good G-Day from Thea!
