How To Store Accessory Jewelry ~ I finally found a storage system that works for how to store accessory jewelry and I found it in the hardware department and a craft store!
I like to watch Stacy London and Clinton Kelly on TLC’s ‘What Not to Wear’ for their practical fashion advice and so my wardrobe consists of trousers, tops, jackets, an assortment of in style sweaters and of course a collection of footwear including shoes and boots. I just mix and match the pieces to create new outfits. To top the look off I like to wear a few accessories such as a necklace, bracelet and earrings. Nothing expensive and not too fancy. When I buy a new outfit I pick out an accessory (or two). Necklaces, bracelets and earrings have also been a gift idea whenever family and friends ask me what they could give me for my birthday or Christmas. It’s also fun to purchase an accessory rather than a souvenir from wherever I happen to be traveling. As a result, my accessory collection is fairly large. The problem then became how do I store everything?
There are number of possibilities that I explored and even tried but they didn’t work for me. A jewelry box is just too small and I didn’t really have a place to hang everything in my closet. I also wanted a storage system where nothing got tangled and was visible and easy to access. I thought about creating a hanging system on the bedroom wall but that didn’t work for me either. Then I tried storing each piece in small plastic re-sealable bags purchased at the dollar store and storing the bags in a basket. The good news was that nothing got tangled but the bad news was I spent a lot of time rummaging through the basket looking for the item I wanted and having to open and reseal the bag each time was quite inconvenient. Then I came up with the best solution!
How To Store Accessory Jewelry…
After a lot of hunting and solution seeking the answer came to me by ‘thinking outside of the box’. The first purchase was made at Walmart in the hardware department. I purchased three Plano Stow N Go Portable Organizers.
They are plastic transparent cases with 24 compartments and a snap lid. This was perfect for holding the necklaces. I even organize the necklaces by color scheme!
One case stores my various coloured necklaces …
the second stores the silver and black tones …
and the third stores the gold and white tone necklaces.
Then I found a smaller but similar style of storage at Michaels in the bead department.
I purchased two bead organizers with 17 compartments to store the bracelets and pins or brooches.
The final purchase was the same style of case but much smaller. This was a perfect size for holding the earrings. I bought the Jobmate Parts Organizer with 24 compartments in the hardware department at Canadian Tire.
These are two earring cases side by side making a total of 48 compartments.
What I really like even more is that each transparent case costs between $5.00 and $10.00 and holds a lot of accessories in a very organized manner. Who knew storage designed for fishing lures and hooks, nails, screws, nuts and bolts and craft items work just as well storing jewelry accessories!
The next problem was where to store all of the cases in my bedroom? The solution was to empty one of my dresser drawers. All of the cases fit very nicely and because they are transparent, I can easily retrieve the accessory I want quickly and conveniently. It’s a lot of fun putting together coordinating outfits and accessorizing! Thanks Stacy and Clinton for your great advice and inspiration about how to dress and how to use jewelry accessories!
I love wearing accessories! Here is how I store my collection of scarves!
