Organized Priorities ~ Instructions for how to create a mind map each year to clearly identify your personal, family and work priorities.
What do priorities have to with organizing? It is our priorities that drive the choices we make in life, define what we believe and guide how we spend our time. Priorities are choices we make that we can control. Priorities change over time and different priorities are more important than others depending on what stage of life we are in. Priorities are basically the foundation for everything we choose to do. It is essential to make sure we have organized priorities in place.
How To Create Your Organized Priorities
The end of the year is a good time to brainstorm and organize your priorities. It can be a starting point for setting your New Year’s Resolutions and goals for the upcoming year by examining what is important to you, what you are already doing and where you would like make improvements.
Priorities need to be identified, articulated and shared with others. When you take the time to record everything that is important it validates and creates significance. You will also be surprised that it will become quite a collection.
I like to organize my ideas in the form of a mind map. It is a way of organizing your thoughts using different categories and subcategories. A list of ideas works from top to bottom and suggests a rank order whereas a mind map creates groupings of ideas without suggesting priorities and importance. I like mind mapping because it gives a strong visual of the details within the bigger picture at the same time. I actually use it a lot when I have to plan. I use it when I have to plan a party as in How To Plan A Party and I use it when I pack for a trip as in Preparing To Pack For A Trip! I also use mind mapping when I create my grocery lists… A Brilliant Method For Recording A Grocery List.
I also list priorities for other things like when planning for vacations in hot and sunny locations near the water. No need for mind mapping. As a matter of fact a sticky note will do with the following jotted down: beach, don’t burn, read, relax…. aaah bliss ….
